After 4 weeks I have lots more growth, not sure if I should cut back or leave alone.
Cut back once more
The sketch tells me.....I do not like a rectangular pot You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Not a hard decision Gerard. If you want a thicker branch, let it grow, if you want backbudding and more branching defoliate now. I would be defoliating and making branch and design selection and wiring now.

This one is putting on a little growth and the structure is coming together.
Soon it will be time to look for a pot.

Re: [Gerard] ulmus procera 1
It was my intention to tilt this tree a little further to the right.
Repotting trees which are collected does have its problems which we do not always see coming.
Only one or two thick roots originally but the situation is improving which will allow the thick roots to be severed in a few years time.
For now I must work with the restricions I have.

Wow, leaf burst already. Mine have not even produced bud swell yet. Only 1.1/2 hours away and totally different micro climate.

Re: [Gerard] ulmus procera 1
I am considering 2 courses of action.
If I defoliate now I think it will be better for final presentation in 5 weeks time.
I am quite pleased with how it presents now, and since I have 2 English elms in this category I might display one of them in the BSV show next week.
