Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
This is the direction for this tree, one of 3 I have worked on today. The idea is to go for a semi cascade. I have used raffia to protect the main trunks and heavily wired the main trunk to achieve the bend.
So far so good.

Peter

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale
When I picked this out of my stock it had no label. At the time I took a guess at the variety of Lepto. I now think that was incorrect and could the moderators change (if my try does not work) the heading to L. continentale.

Are you sure of the ID, L.continentale as far as I have seen has a thinner & more sharply pointed leaf. None the less its a great looking tree & will come up a treat in no time.

PS I think your original ID is on the money, tho which subspecies I cannot confirm.

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for that but why I reconsidered the variety was when I was at Bunnings they had the horizontalis which looked similar to mine, this is a variation of continentale and the description in my book was closer to continentale than parvifolium.
When it flowers it will give me a more positive ID.
Regards,
Peter

I have changed my mind...I dont like it! I love it! Now I would like to ask. Dont you think if you lower just little bit the left bottom branch it will look better? Just a newb here.

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
Hi,
Izzykay,
Yes it could be. I will be closer to known 99.9% when it flowers.
Neli,
As you see it now it is just an initial shaping. It is distinctly possible for that branch to move when I revisit it . As we are in winter and some times down to -7deg C, all 4 of my entries have slowed down although they are each sharing a quarter of a heat mat.
Regards,
Peter

Peter, that is very good stock for this competition and you have done a great job on a first styling. One to watch... cheers Shane

Had a re-pot and is putting on new growth. If you are wondering the rocks are to hold it in using external wire.

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
Hi Peter,
This species is most definitely not L. continentale, which, like Matt said, is very spikey. Until flowering it is very difficult to tell though leaf morphology suggests it could be L. myrtifolium (which has very fine hairs on young foliage) or, as Izzykay suggested, L. rotundifolium. I tend to agree with Izzykay based on the little information we have.
Either way it's a nice plant and I'm excited that previously un-used species of Leptospermum are working so well.
