Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
Thankyou for the comments.
Neli,
I am happy with my progress as a Bonsai artist. Still lots to learn.
Matty-j,
I do a lot of my non natives now. Natives and some non natives I generally leave to October/November.
For this comp I am getting my entries into pots early, to give them the best chance of being the best they can be buy the time the comp ends.
My entries were re-potted when the comp started, except the pine. Over winter all my entries were on a heat mat to encourage root growth.
This has helped achieve the pot transition early in the season. The Juniper entry's root ball was reduced considerably and I was concerned for its survival but it has survived.
Regards
Peter

Joel,
It is hard to identify and I am still leaning toward my original ID. I have taken a closer picture of the leaf. Due to 2 re-pots within a year it may not flower this year.

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
I removed most of the wire today as it was starting to mark the branches. I have left the old wire on where the raffia is as these heavy bends will take a little longer the set.
I have rewired the branches in the reverse direction giving the branches another couple of months to set. With a little more growth on the left it will have the bones to start the refinement.
Regards,
Peter

Saw this tree today in the flesh . Very nice . Peter , after our conversation today i had to check the time length of the competition . This competition from my understanding finishes in September 2014 , it's a 18 month comp . Not that you need any extra time for this tree . But it might help with your pruning for flower agenda .
Cheers Craig

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
Hi,
I bought myself a new camera recently. These are the first pictures out of it. Unfortunately my editing program wont see NEF files. These are lower quality JPEG.
I wasn't happy with the blue pot and this one of PKs was not in use.I liked the colour and the light and dark sides.I re-potted about 3 weeks ago and it is putting on new growth. I will have to take the wire off soon as it is cutting in.
Regards,
Peter

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
March update,
Lost a back branch due to poor wiring. Fat fingers and fine wire. Letting it go till spring but may have to try re bending the main trunk.
Regards,
Peter

Re: [PeterH] Leptospermum continentale.
bummer, that awkward space in the middle with the branchless trunk is now a little bit of an eyesore. Still, that pot is just amazing.
