[ANBITA] Callitris rhombifolium - 6 months
Common Name: Port Jackson Pine
Trained: 6 Months
Height: 27 cm
Width: 11 cm
Artist: Daniel (dansai)
Where: Mid North Coast, NSW
A tree I have played a little with, and as I am not a grower of pines generally, yet love some of the images created, I thought I'ld see how this goes. I think it will need a lot of work to keep it's look.
Will need a shallower pot or maybe a small slab.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I have a few i've been playing with. They adult foliage tends to elongate rather rapidly though. I expect i'll have to do very regular trimming to maintain this shape, but hope to fill the branches with more foliage. They do back bud easily on the branches if some foliage is left, or from the base of branches or trunk if foliage is removed.

I'd love to see some of your Callitris. I've been interested giving them a go since i sore them on the beach at Harvey bay when we were on holidays last year.

Hey Sam, I'm away for three weeks but I'll gets some pics of the ones I've got. They're all young plants and have only had one chop and no root work, but the one here was like that and I took it to market with me to work on and made a bushy poor formal upright. I still liked it though. Then after doing some reading on Bonsai and seeing drawings of stark pines with downward branches I wanted a pine! Then I pulled it out and thought, why not.
I think it will take many years to looked aged and be convincing, and may be too difficult to maintain the foliage. But if it works......
I had one previously, from the same stock, that was only about 5 cm high. Unfortunately we had some unseasonable hot spring days. I was working the first one and put it in heavier shade that afternoon, but alas, a week later it was dead. I'll put a pic up for you when I post the raw ones in a new post.
