I thought now's a good time to start a thread for my JBP's.
Three of these were my first black pines, that I bought as pre-bonsai in November 2021. The fourth is two cuttings I propagated from said pines, that had roots interwoven I decided to keep together.
All are being developed with the goal of being shohin size trees. The original three are being styled as upright trees, and the cuttings are being styled as a semi cascade.
JBP1:
Jbp1 Nov 2021 as it was when purchased at a show. Big sacrifice with weak lower branches. Potted way too high with a bad nebari. Roots were all on the left side with chunks of bark squeezed into the right side to fill the gap. I bought it because I could see the potential in the nice low movement.
Jbp1 December 2021 first bit of work removing all the top growth for cuttings which after this photo got cut back to a stub. It got potted up into a larger plastic nursery pot after this too.
Jbp1 April 2022 starting to move in a new direction.
Jbp1 Dec 2022 before decandling.
Jbp1 Dec 2022 after decandling.
Jbp1 May 2023 before needle reduction and wiring.
Jbp1 May 2023 after needle reduction and wiring.
Jbp1 Dec 2023 before decandling.

JBP2:
Jbp2 Nov 2021 as it was when purchased. Bought from a good black pine grower who had already started good roots and a short, thick trunk.
Jbp2 Dec 2021 first bit of work. I removed most of the top sacrifice, which in hindsight I could have kept for a bit longer. Feeling my way into pines at this stage without any experience under my belt.
Jbp2 September 2022. The lower sacrifice has now taken over from cutting the top one.
Jbp2 Dec 2022 before decandling.
Jbp2 Dec 2022 after decandling and wire.
Jbp2 May 2023 before needle reduction and wiring.

Jbp2 Dec 2023 after decandling.
Jbp2 April 2024 before needle reduction and wiring.
Jbp2 April 2024 after needle reduction and wiring. It could also make a nice compact little pine, but I want to have the long branch on the right extending out further as a strong directional branch for a bit of tension.
This was going to be my front back in summer, but as you can see there is a bad primary bar branch situation from this view. Both branches are important so turning it to the angle above eliminates the bar issue.

JBP3:
Jbp3 Nov 2021 when purchased. Bought from the same grower as jbp2. This one was the skinniest and quite possibly youngest of the 3.
Jbp3 September 2022 from both sides. Didn't get any photos in between, but this one was just keep growing and got a repot.
Jbp3 Dec 2022 before decandling.
Jbp3 Dec 2022 after decandling and wire.
Jbp3 May 2023 after a needle reduction. This is the only pic I have.

Jbp3 April 2024 before needle reduction and wiring.
Jbp3 April 2024 after needle reduction and wiring. The lower trunk has really started to bulk up over the last year. Looking thicc.
