These Green Island Figs are one of my favourite species for minis. They respond so well from everything. This one was purchased from a landscape gardener closing up shop for $5.00. It was purchased late in 2006, cut down to size and repotted. I let it regain health and then in 2007, cut it back to a trunk. Regrown branches and started on ramification. They are a real fun little tree to work on and you get to see some results from your work relatively quickly, making the species a good starter material for any learners out there. Once again, this tree has had good sun, plenty of water and plenty food. This tree is 16cm high,16cm wide and has a base width of 8cm.

Re: Shohin Green Island Fig
I would like to see this little guy in a few months time. I think the low side branches need to grow out a little so you can start getting a good dome crown on it.
its got a great trunk on it too.

Young and hostile but not stupid.
Re: Shohin Green Island Fig
Thanks for your comments. With this species you can make a reasonable looking bonsai in a relatively short space of time. I am lucky enough to have a spot where i can collect some of these. I dont think they are a native tree to Australia, but cant be sure.

Re: Shohin Green Island Fig
Nice one Peter. I agree they are a forgiving species to work with and yours will look great once you can see a little of the branches.
