Its interesting all my white ones have flowered and finished. However the pink one is still in full bloom some tired blosooms to be sure but over all still looks good

In spring after the new shoot has reached about five leaves - still very tender, you cut off the first three leaves while they are still small and undeveloped. Supposedly this ensures that the dormant buds which remain in those axils do not develop into flower buds and you are left with three leaf buds to cut back to after the next flowering. As I said I have tried it several times without to much luck. I still mainly get flower buds in those places. I may be doing something wrong however?? Maybe wiring early and/or letting the shoot extend out much further than I do before cutting it might help??
As an aside, you often get 3 flower buds at the one node but sometimes you're lucky and the middle one is a leaf bud.
BTW!!! when I say the first 3 leaves, I mean the first three from the bottom end (proximal) not the top!!

It did shoot at the base of a large branch I removed before potting it up last year so I am hoping it will do the same

Been meaning to update this tree for a while now

Once again this tree has responded well to a chop and pushed at the cut site. I am also finding 1 to 2 year old branches rammify much more readily than older branches so the new growth after the cut has already developed well,
Should have a nice flower silhouette this year

Wow! First time into this thread form me and what an excellent tree and thread. I’m on a train going to work and when I got to to your post July 2017, I fair dinkum nearly spat a mouthful of takeaway coffee on the dude in front of me! ‘Bit the Bullet’ - more like took the nuclear option. Great foresight though and the end result will be a tree of more interest and character. Love the tree that Nate.bonsai posted as inspiration too.

I look forward to further updates.

Does anyone know where I can get one in Adelaide? No one seems to have them here...

Patiently waiting for this tree to put on its show, any day now! After flowering I will cut back some branches to encourage some better ramification, and possibly look for a new pot.

I still look with admiration at the change you made two years ago. This tree is so much better now that you knocked the top off it. Looks fantastic in that pot too.

I am looking forward to seeing it in flower.

That combination of tree, pot and with the pale buds swelling is just absolutely delightful

Here it is about half way through its annual show Hope you all enjoy as much as I do, even though you can't smell it
