I Was asked last night while discussing this, ar eyou going to do any rework on the tree?
If so do you already have a plan yourself ( do not say what 'till after the comp closes), or are you goint to pick the winners design?

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Hi Ken,
I do plan to rework the tree at some stage soon. I have not got any plans firm in my head at this stage. The virts that are coming in are giving me some ideas. As for picking the winning design to style the tree with, I may.....and I may not. Whatever I do, I will post a pic here as soon as it is done.
Regards,
Leigh.

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Quick question, How many entries are we limited too?
Young and hostile but not stupid.

Hello Asus,
Good question. We are allowing as many entries as you can create. This should allow for some very creative and artistic virts.
Get cracking.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Compliments to Leigh for this competition, and to all who did those interesting virtuals. So far, my vote would go to DavidN, partly because of his detailed work plan.
However, after having had a good look at the tree, what I would do is slip pot it into a styrofoam box and let it recover and grow out for at least 18 months. Cedars are really touchy and working on this tree at this stage might be too stressfull for it. Also, with a better development of foliage and branching, new avenues of styling might open.
Sorry to go against the flow - I always seem to do that.

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Hello all!
Nice tree Leigh! I like it! You are lucky to have many branches to work with. There is enough small branches there for a complete apex quickly. To me, the only "bad" parts of this tree are the 2 big main branches, which are too long and make the silhouette of the tree too wide. By removing the big branches, you could reduce the width of the tree's silhouette, which will actually make the bonsai look much taller. Here are some sketches of how I see it. I am unsure of which front to use though. That would depends on how the root base actually look like in real life and where the best back branches are. Good luck with it! Can't wait to see how you style it soon.

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Last chance for a late entry. Dont forget, multiple ideas/entries are welcome, so if you have already put a virt up but have had time to see something else in the tree......have another crack at it!

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Hello All "Virters"!
Thanks to everyone who got involved with the first Virt Comp. All entires were great, it is amazing how we can have so many different ideas for the styling of one tree. As for the restyling of this tree, I now have some great ideas and will endeavour to keep you all updated with its progression.
Judging was difficult, but there appeared to be a stand out in DavidN's entry.
DavidN wins the first comp and now has a choice of prize from the "Prize Cupboard" viewtopic.php?f=114&t=1317
David, please PM me with your choice, along with your postal address. Feel free to tell all your choice, or not!
I will have a new tree photographed shortly for the next comp. Thanks too, for all the feedback on size of pic, etc. I will make sure the next one is a little easier for you all to use.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Re: Ledanta Virtual Comp - June
Excellent!!! Thanks Leigh. Yeah I really enjoy doing virtuals and they allow me to be creative whilst not being outside working on actual trees.
Regarding the prizes, I would have to say that I already have the magazines (I think 121 is coming soon), tools, more than enough pots, and numerous books. The only thing I have run out of is grafting tape. So that might have to be the prize I would select. Might sound crazy especially with the other prizes on offer but its the only thing I actually don't have any of at the moment and will be needing in the spring. At least the other prizes will still be on offer for everyone next month.
