This is the first one, its about 8 years or so old, and never been repotted.
second photo shows how much it leans over.

ok ace; first let me say that i find it very hard to believe this is 8 yrs old. nursery men can be some of the best story tellers in the buiss. If it is it could be brittle and roots a solid block. how is the flex in it? and get it bare rooted lets have a look at it. it can soak in water in between what we are doing. :D

The root ball is a solid block.
It was started as a cutting 8 years ago, and was why I got it for a dollar. It was going to be thrown out with the rest of them.

The guy down the road says some of his tube stock is about 12 years...

While I'm not doubting the 8 year old bit, I think that the lesson to learn here is the difference that good soil, room for roots to grow in and a fertilizing regime makes one hell of a difference in growing trees.
